Bibliographical references include links to electronic full texts databases, as well as to the online VHL&#8217;s Cooperative Service for Accessing Documents [<a href=\"http:\/\/scad.bvs.br\/php\/index.php?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">SCAD<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">LILACS\/CD ROM is published quarterly and includes the databases of LILACS System, databases of Specialized Centers and World Health Organization Library, and the database <a href=\"http:\/\/bases.bireme.br\/cgi-bin\/wxislind.exe\/iah\/online\/?IsisScript=iah\/iah.xis&amp;base=SeCS&amp;lang=i\" target=\"_blank\">SeCS<\/a> &#8211; Serials in Health Sciences. It can be acquired by signature for any user or library and its distribution politics to the Cooperating Centers is based on the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/bvsmodelo.homolog.bvsalud.org\/site\/lilacs\/I\/icontrib.htm\" target=\"_blank\">contribution<\/a><\/span> for the LILACS database.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p class=\"selflink\">LILACS<\/strong> (Literatura Latino-Americana em Ci\u00eancias da Sa\u00fade \u2013 Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature) is a bibliographic index of scientific and technical production in the health sciences published in Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">LILACS has various dimensions depending on the facet necessary for its development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A simple way of defining LILACS is as a model for the publication of a source of scientific and technical information on the internet, produced in a decentralized manner and with a basis in methods and standards the promote quality, consistency and interoperability of the inserted data.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Depending on the They cooperate feeding the LILACS database, contributing with the bibliographic control and the dissemination of scientific-technique literature of the Region, in the model of technique cooperation established for the Virtual Health Library.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This group of databases that use the standards established in LILACS Methodology we call LILACS System.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, LILACS System is integrated by the following databases: LILACS, BBO, BDENF, MEDCARIB and national databases of the Latin American countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Conte\u00fado wiki (http:\/\/wiki.bireme.org\/en\/index.php\/LILACS_Methodology)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The\u00a0<strong class=\"selflink\">LILACS Methodology<\/strong>\u00a0was designed to produce, in a decentralized way, a reference index for literature in the Health Sciences area published by authors from within the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, and due to the context of its production, it was clearly designed to emphasize:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Content over form;<\/li>\n<li>Access to the document whether by link or photocopy;<\/li>\n<li>Institutional affiliation and country origin of the authors with the view to creating bibliometrics;<\/li>\n<li>Document description at the analytic level of the document;<\/li>\n<li>Consistent controls of data;<\/li>\n<li>Decentralized production, through a network formed by cooperating centers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Considering these characteristics, the Methodology adopted the following as standards and norms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>UNISIST<\/b>\u00a0(United Nations International Scientific Information System) \u2013 this is essentially a model for the dissemination of information, a social system communication model, consisting of producers, intermediaries, and users of knowledge [<a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/UNISIST_model\" rel=\"nofollow\">see also<\/a>],\u00a0<a class=\"external autonumber\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iva.dk\/bh\/Core%20Concepts%20in%20LIS\/articles%20a-z\/unisist_model_of_information_dis.htm\" rel=\"nofollow\">[1]<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"external autonumber\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eca.usp.br\/prof\/fmodesto\/disc\/RDII\/texto\/UNISISTFORRESUMO.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow\">[2]<\/a>\u00a0(in Portuguese);<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">AARC2;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">DeCS (Portuguese and Spanish version of MeSH with the inclusion of the Public Health, Health Surveillance, Science and Health, and Homeopathy);<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">and later, MARC Lite, to increase the types of documents and informational support accepted by the LILACS Methodology.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">At this moment, LILACS is analyzing a way to permit the interoperability between different formats and standards to undertake the harvesting of data in repositories and platforms that have OAI\/PMH.
